Two coloured maps and numerous black and white photographs throughout. Advertisement for Shell on the Road at the rear by Edward Bawden. The endpapers are of leaf sketches by the author/artist. The double page photomontage 'Slough Then and Now' was an influence on John Betjeman's poem 'Slough'. Friendly bombs. When Faber and Faber took over publication in 1939, they reissued existing titles with a new title page to indicate the change of publisher and put the original limp-covered ring binding in practical stiff cloth boards. The dust-wrapper reproduces the original paper cover illustrations.
