Chance. A Tale in Two Parts.

London: Methuen & Co. Ltd, 1914. 8vo. First edition. Original green woven cloth, gilt. Top edge trimmed, others untrimmed. With 'METHVEN' to foot of spine, cancelled title page dated 1914 tipped-in, "Narcissus" with closed quotation marks in the list of books by the same author, and advertisements at the rear dated Autumn 1913 and September 1913. A binders' strike delayed publication and resulted in the need to postpone publication until Slightly cocked. A little rubbing to the spine and tips. Light foxing to edges and throughout the text. Very good. Item #4898

The author's most successful novel, in terms of immediate sales, revolves around Flora de Barral and what various narrators, including Charles Marlow, make of the events of her life. Feminism, financial speculation and intrigue all play their part as the story builds towards its conclusion and her father's release from prison.
