Designed, drawn and printed by Rena Gardiner. 'The illustrations in this book are from drawings made directly onto lithographic aluminium plates. They are therefore originals and not reproductions of drawings made on paper.' Following on from History at Salisbury Cathedral (1967) this is another carefully researched and beautifully executed guide. 'In 1971, the Abbey celebrates the 850th anniversary of its Consecration.' One of the illustrations records the less happy event of the spire's collapse in a gale at Easter 1559.
