One of the most sought-after volumes in The Badminton Library of Sports and Pastimes, edited by the Duke of Beaufort and Alfred E. T. Watson, and one of the great books on golf. A lovely, fresh copy. Arthur James Balfour (1848-1930) succeeded his uncle Lord Salisbury as Prime Minister in 1902 but is perhaps best remembered for the Declaration on Palestine's future of 1917. Harry Furniss (1854-1925) was a Punch cartoonist but he also illustrated Lewis Carroll's Sylvie and Bruno the year before this and went on to illustrate the works of Dickens and Thackeray before moving to America where he produced the first animated cartoon film for Thomas Edision.
