London: Collins, 1933. Landscape Folio. First edition. Original green cloth, gilt. Endpapers with a repeated design matching the dust-wrapper. Wood engravings, including twelve full page illustrations, a title page vignette (repeated in gilt on the upper board), initial letters and tailpieces, by the author. Spine and edges just a little faded and dust-soiled. A few tiny spots to the front board. Contents clean and fresh. Price-clipped d/w has a few very short closed tears, repaired with clear tape on the verso, and is a little rubbed and tanned. Near fine in near fine d/w. Item #5859
The author's first book, which she wrote, engraved and designed, and the most desirable. Each of the twelve chapters, one for each month of the year, is faced by a full page wood engraving. A classic of the engraver's art and an unsentimental celebration of the English farming year. A lovely copy.
