London: Scholastic (Point, David Fickling Books), 1995, 1997 & 2000. 8vo. 3 volumes, set. First UK editions, first impressions. Original hardcovers (maroon, green, black). Northern Lights is in the first state jacket with 'Point' on the spine and rear flap. 1. This appears to be an ex-library copy. The spine is a little creased. The spine ends and corner tips are gently pushed. The edges are slightly discoloured. The endpapers display subtle evidence that something adhesive has been removed leaving small patches of abrasion and discolouration. There is a small stain on the title page. The author has signed the title page in blue ink. The unclipped jacket ('£12.99') is a bit rumpled and is faded on the spine with the exception of a round mark towards the bottom. Very good in very good d/w. 2. Fine in fine d/w. 3. D/w just a little faded on the spine. Fine in near fine d/w. Item #6002
The trilogy of novels that brought Lyra, Pantalaimon and Dust onto the shelves and into the minds of so many people around the world. Each volume is the first UK impression and Northern Lights, the first and scarcest title, is signed by Philip Pullman. It seems very likely that it was previously in a library but someone has done a very careful job of eliminating the signs of that past and the full set has a very presentable future.
