Submarine Dream. Lithographs and Letters. Edited by Brian Webb with an Introduction by Peyton Skipwith.

London: The Camberwell Press, 1996. Folio. First edition. An edition of 375 copies. This is 13/75 copies signed by Professor Eileen Hogan of Camberwell College of Arts with a folder of ten prints. Dark green leather spine. Boards reproducing a marbled paper designed by Tirzah Ravilious during the 1930s which is again used on the linen-covered portfolio. Stochastic screening was used for the lithographed reproductions. The portfolio is faded on the spine and part of the back. The book and prints are fine. Item #6067

Eric Ravilious (1903-42) was appointed a War Artist in February 1940. In August that year he moved to HMS Dolphin, the submarine base in Gosport, Hampshire. He produced two series of five lithographs, the first set predominantly blue/yellow and the second blue/brown. No publisher in wartime was prepared to print them in book form and they were sold as extremely limited prints. This is the first publication as a book and this copy has the additional advantage of the full set of prints as individual duplicates. Scarce.
