Illustrated throughout in colour and black and white. A couple of very small grey marks to the front board which also has a tiny bump towards the middle of the bottom edge. Attractive bookplate of Kenneth & Wendy Skelton to the front pastedown. Loosely inserted is a typed letter signed by Simon Lawrence describing the book's five year gestation and plans for the launch party at The Fine Art Society on 1st November 2002. Near fine. 'Over a short period of thirty-six months of the war, until he was tragically lost in Iceland during September 1942, Ravilious made well over a hundred watercolour paintings of British military subjects, with a number of fine lithographs of submarine interiors.' The artwork is beautifully reproduced and is accompanied by over 280 personal letters, diary excerpts and official memos. A lovely copy of a definitive work.
