The "spirited and amusing pictures [..] have been drawn directly on the stone by the famous artist who is perhaps best known to children by his 'Captain Grimes and Lucy'". Eyre & Spottiswoode have mangled 'Little Tim and the Brave Sea Captain' and 'Lucy Brown and Mr. Grimes', both published by Oxford University Press, and did not correct the author's spelling of medicine. Brian Alderson's Edward Ardizzone - A Bibliographic Commentary insists that the book was published in November 1948, but the pencil inscription in this copy is evidence that those who date it to 1947 are correct.
