From the library of William St. Clair (1937-2021), the distinguished historian and author. Clearly the early volumes were working copies. In Volume I, the section on The History of the Text. Collected Editions. in the Editorial Introduction has a pithy marginal comment, 'This section needs to be considerably amended'. In Volume II, the Errata slip note listing corrections to Byron's 'faulty Greek transcription' gains the pencil comment, 'This is NONSENSE. The Errata restore the ERRORS of the early printers. Nobody who, like Byron, knew Greek could make such errors including impossible unpronounceable words.' His reviews list further errors but also give high praise where praise is due. Complete sets are very uncommon and this set benefits from St. Clair's knowledge and careful engagement.
