The type is Eric Gill's Perpetua and it is printed on cream rag Dickinson paper made for this edition. In two paper-covered slipcases with paper labels. Illustrated with line drawings and auto-lithographs in colour drawn on the stone by Barnett Freedman. Just a hint of rubbing to the heads of the spines. The labels on the slipcases are browned, the tops and backs of each case are faded, but they are free from the cracking that often affects them. Near fine in very good+ slipcases. Item #6835
Signed by the artist and with his thumb print in red ink, this is probably the most handsome edition of Tolstoy's masterpiece in English. Freedman's delightful illustrations enhance the text. Magnificent.
