A sumptuous binding commissioned by the illustrator and translator, as recorded inside the front cover, 'R. L. from E. and D.' Robertson Lawson's bookplate, dated 1898, features books, thistles and a castle. At the bottom edge is an inscription in ink, 'In affectionate remembrance from Clara. April 24 1917'.
