The missing d/w featured a collage of photographs, old and new, of Wiltshire by Lord Berners. The Gazetteer was largely compiled by Edith Olivier. "Swindon, a place whose existence is regretted by those who seek the beautiful without reference to human development. This sentiment may be shared by the tourist. To the resident it is unacceptable. We cannot live only in the past, and Wiltshire, as this book will show, is not such an Austria among counties as most people think."
