Ingahild Grathmer is the pseudonym of Margrethe II, queen of Denmark until January 2024 when she abdicated the throne after exactly fifty-two years as monarch. (Grathmer is an anagram of Margrethe and Ingahild is formed from parts of her first names.) She sent her illustrations for The Lord of the Rings to the author in the early 1970s and Tolkien admired their similarity to his own designs. They were first used in a Danish translation and then employed in 1977 by The Folio Society with one illustration at the head of each chapter. This limited edition is beautifully printed, illustrated and bound.
