London & New York: John Lane, The Bodley Head, 1896. 8vo. First edition. Original dark green cloth, gilt lettering and decoration to spine and front board. All edges gilt. Tissue-guarded frontispiece, full page illustrations, head and tail pieces and numerous other illustrations in the text. Boards with some scattered tiny marks. Spine ends and corner tips a little rubbed with a split to the cloth across the spine at the head. Endpapers a bit foxed. Neat ink presentation, dated Christmas 1900, on the flyleaf. The tissue-guard is foxed and has affected both the frontispiece and the illustrated title page. A little faint foxing scattered throughout. Very good +. Item #9282

Henry Dawson Lowry (1869-1906) was a Cornish-born journalist, novelist, short story writer and poet. Charles Robinson (1870-1937) was a prolific book illustrator but this was one of his first commissions after Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses (1895). Scarce.
